10 Things we Love... November

1 November 2012

Bonfire Night

As we enter November, one particular event springs to mind: Bonfire Night! It is the celebration of Guy Fawkes capture after his famous gunpowder plot over 400 years ago. So around the 5th of November, grab your wellies and wrap up warm because Britain’s skies will be lit up everywhere in the glowing of bonfires and bursts of fireworks. If you’re in London why not join the crowd at Blackheath’s impressive fireworks display? Taking place on Saturday 3rd of November, it is regarded as having London’s finest fireworks and is expecting to attract over 100,000 visitors this year. With refreshments, a funfair and free entry for all, there is no reason not to join in this year’s traditional celebrations.

Movember

For many, Movember is like Marmite: you either love it or you hate it. But many forget what Movember is all about. Aside from creating many Freddie Mercurys and Charlie Chaplins, Movember is an innovative campaign that aims to raise funds and awareness for men’s health. Impossible to miss, the moustaches grown in November brings to attention men’s health issues that are often avoided in conversation, specifically prostate and testicular cancer, in an attempt to literally ‘change the face of men’s health’.

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

Now that the British summertime has officially drawn to a close, Hyde Park is being transformed into its annual Winter Wonderland. From the 23rd November, you will be entering into a magical winter world as you walk through the gates of Hyde Park, which plays hosts to food and drink stalls, Santa’s grotto, fairground rides and, of course, their famous ice rink, all beautifully decorated in an array of sparkling lights.  This year they have even more attractions and are introducing the Magical Ice Kingdom, a world made from real ice and snow that invites visitors to walk through and awe at its trees and woodland creatures. It is the perfect scene for anyone to have some winter fun and soak up the Christmas spirit.

The New Bodyguard

The streets of London have been non-stop talking about The Bodyguard’s comeback onto the West End stage. Following the story’s hit in the cinemas twenty years ago, the romantic thriller is now appearing on stage for the first time ever this November at Covent Garden’s Adelphi. It will be including the Houston classics ‘One Moment in Time’ and ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, making it a perfect theatrical treat.

Abel & Cole

Winter is the time of year where the seasonal festivities allow you to treat yourself to an extra mince pie (or five), but just because it’s winter it doesn’t mean we have to neglect our fruit and veg. So why not take advantage of Abel and Cole’s food boxes? You can create your own organic selection of vegetables, fruit and meat, and the best thing is that you get it delivered right to your door! So there is no need to brave the unwelcome winter weather. With a selection of delicious seasonal fruit and vegetables to pick from, and even free weekly recipe cards, why not make home-made soup or roast some root vegetables?
